Tips on choosing your linens

  • Don't buy linens. You will have to press and clean all of them and then you will have a bunch of linens to store.

  • If choosing to iron your own linens, please note that the average time to iron is 4-5 linens per hour.

  • Don’t consider just the linen itself. Also think about the napkins, flowers and how the colors of your wedding will work together.

  • Know the size of your tables before going to the rental store.

  • If you’re doing specialty lighting, keep this in mind. Specialty lighting can change the color of your linens.

  • When selecting napkins, don’t forget extra napkins for bread baskets, adding color to the food displays, and in case a spill calls for a replacement. Order about 10 more than that your guests number to be safe.

  • An advantage to having a full-service wedding planner is she/he can coordinate with the vendors to show you a mock-up of a table set with the linen, plate ware, flowers, etc.

  • Some rental companies have full size samples so you can see your linen on a table.

  • If you don’t have a wedding planner and live in a different city than where the wedding will be held, consider renting a single linen and having it shipped to you. This way you can get a better sense of it to determine whether it’s a fit for your wedding.

  • Popular color palettes these days include: taupe/sand, purples (eggplant especially) and charcoal. Greens are always popular.
